Some Game Ideas for Nintendo 3DS
So as soon as I read about the upcoming Nintendo 3DS having augmented reality games, I’ve been getting ideas for games that could possibly make use of it. Maybe some day we’ll be playing these or similar games on the 3DS.
Duck Hunt 3DS

What if the ducks didn’t fly out from behind pixelated bushes, but rather from behind your couch or grandfather’s head? I’m not sure if AR is at that point yet, but you gotta admit it would be pretty cool. Couple this with the 3DS’s gyroscope and you could shoot at ducks while they fly 360 degrees around you! That much is possible, I know at least.
Army Men 3DS
3DO may be no more, but that’s no reason why the Army Men game franchise couldn’t continue. Maybe the series needed a different game studio anyway. I’m not too sure how the game would play out, but of all the game possibilities, an AR Army Men game is arguably the most logical.
Zero 3DS / Fatal Frame 3DS

Although a larger game screen would be nice, even on a small LCD display this could make for one creepy AR game. Think your house is haunted? Take your 3DS with you and find out! Although the Fatal Frame series centers around a cute girl with a camera, this could make for one creepy portable game concept (in other words, it doesn’t have to be a Fatal Frame title). Turn the 3DS into the Camera Obscura, and as you move the 3DS around, one minute you’re in your room alone and the next minute there’s something staring at you from over in the corner. And if there was some way to couple it with the 3DS’s 3D camera software, the next time you take pictures of your friends, you might have more friends than you realized.
Crime Scene Investigator
A buddy came up with this idea. I don’t know how it would be incorporated, but it seems logical. Even if you don’t incorporate the camera and the AR, you can still make a game using the gyroscope — move the 3DS around to search the crime scenes.
Sim City 5

Aren’t you glad they stopped calling them Sim City X-Thousand? I mean, Sim City 3000 didn’t even go to the year 3000 (or maybe I just didn’t play it long enough). But anyway, for a system with 3D capabilities, this seemed like a logical step. Skyscrapers would literally appear to pop out of the 3DS. Sure, there would be issues around the borders, but all 3DS games will likely suffer from this. That and, again, the display is pretty small, which can make a Sim City game pretty difficult to play. But hey, it’s just an idea. Without Maxis, who knows what kind of game will come out of it, though. Furthermore, it follows from the Sim City idea that Tycoon games might be nice on the 3DS, such as Zoo Tycoon or Rollercoaster Tycoon.
